Congressional Staff and Federal Agencies Visit Bethel and Kwethluk

AVCP Regional Housing Authority (RHA) recently met with the Association of Alaska Housing Authorities (AAHA) during their visit to Bethel for a joint meeting with congressional staff and federal agencies. Attendees included representatives from AAHA, the Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness, legislative staff from Senators Sullivan, Murkowski, and Representative Peltola’s offices, and staff from HUD’s Office of Native American Programs. The meeting focused on understanding tribal housing issues in rural Alaska.

Peter Evon, AVCP RHA’s CEO, discussed the region’s housing needs, presenting the strategic plan and community forecasts. The group then traveled to Kwethluk to observe the housing challenges in the Y-K Delta, such as overcrowding and climate change impacts. AVCP RHA extends its gratitude to AAHA, congressional staff, federal agencies, and Kwethluk’s tribal leaders for their time and engagement. We look forward to strengthening partnerships and fostering a collaborative approach to addressing tribal housing needs in the region.
