As the Tribally Designated Housing Entity (TDHE), the housing authority is authorized to act on behalf of its tribes to design, submit and implement an Indian Housing Plan to address the affordable housing needs of its member tribes.
A 10-member Indian Housing Planning Committee (IHPC) assists in the development and design of the Indian Housing Plan and its related 5 Year and 1 Year plans. All of the IHPC members are selected annually by the tribal delegates to the AVCP Regional Housing Authority annual housing conference held every spring in Bethel. A member is selected from each of the 10 AVCP administrative units. A member serves for one year.
The IHPC meets to review and approve the Indian Housing Plan including the identification of site and number of new housing development and to make recommendations for approval to the Board of Commissioners and the tribes. Upon approval of an IHP, each is then reviewed by the AVCP RHA Board of Commissioners prior to submittal to the Alaska Office of Native American Programs, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
